Zhanina Marinova: Fata Morgana

Coral cloud. Coral blush. Pale pink.

Having used these colours more than often, here they have become a silky surface base. That base is something more… the pink represents compassion, nurturing and love relating to unconditional love and understanding. A blend between passion and strength of the red colour and the purity and completeness of the white. Seen as feminine and sweet, it is bringing a sense of intimacy, a thoughtful character showing empathy and sensitivity. A colour which can calm emotional energies and comfort. Something else that caught my attention, is that the pink can remind us of early childhood memories. A big (pink) cotton candy for example, softly disappearing when touched by the tongue. Like something magical. The pink automatically brings up another memory of mine. Milan, a few months ago, visiting an exhibition. I spoke with an artist who had made an installation in light soft pink. I immediately asked “Why pink?” and got my answer: The pink is the saddest colour of all. Indeed, it is usually an escape or a cover for something gloomy. Therefore, “to see through rose-coloured glasses” is like a motto for this sweet escape.

Then comes the dark blue, dark as the depth of the sea, endless, giving strength to the pale pink. Like wild sea waves, the lines have a direction, with no proper rhythm or concrete motion. The horizon is vertical. The coral cloud pink is not a base anymore, but a warm sunset. The two dark figures are whispering to each other, having an intimate dialogue, like in a time-lapse. The sun is so full and pink like a morning blossoming rose. The hot sky and the cold sea have been born together, like a non-stop changing Fata Morgana. Unrecognizable mirages caressing the sun.
